The Camino de Santiago, a brief introduction
The Camino de Santiago is a number of pilgrimage routes that follow ancient paths to the city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, North West Spain. The most famous and popular path is from St Jean Pied de Port in France as is known as the Camino Frances, or the French Way. Other popular Camino routes include the Camino Portuguese, from Porto and the Camino Norte, that follows the north coast of Spain from Irun. There are over 50 Camino routes in Spain alone.
How to Plan a Camino de Santiago
These are the basic steps you should take to plan a Camino pilgrimage…
– Decide which Camino route you want to take.
– Decide when you want to walk the Camino.
– Plan a route to the starting point.
– Decide what gear you are going to carry or whether you might even employ a bag transfer service.
– Ensure you have adequate travel and health insurance for the trip.
– Possibly book some of your Camino accommodation ahead of time, particularly if you are walking in a busy period.
– Prepare your phone for the trip, downloading any maps or apps that will help you on your Camino.
